River Info - Rock Creek

About Rock Creek

Rock Creek is a freestone mountain stream flowing out of the Flint Creek Range near Philipsburg. Smaller than the Bitterroot, Blackfoot, or Clark Fork, Rock Creek offers a more intimate, hands-on fishing experience with high fish density and endless pocket water.

This is a river for anglers who enjoy moving, casting frequently, and working close to structure. It’s also one of the most scenic fisheries in the region, winding through forested canyons and granite walls.

Fish Species

  • Rainbow Trout
  • Cutthroat Trout
  • Brown Trout

Fishing Experience

Rock Creek is best suited for wade fishing. Dry-dropper rigs are extremely effective, especially during summer months when hatches and terrestrials overlap. Because the creek is smaller, stealth and accurate casting matter more than distance.

The creek can fish well from spring through fall, though flows and access vary with snowmelt and seasonal conditions.

Why Anglers Love It

  • High fish density and constant action
  • Beautiful canyon scenery
  • Excellent wade fishing
  • Perfect for anglers who enjoy technical water
