Tyson Sugihara
I’m the founder of Lightweight Fly Shop and someone who’s happiest with a fly rod in hand and moving water at my feet. I’ve spent years chasing trout through mountain streams and remote rivers, always drawn to the rhythm of the cast and the quiet thrill of the catch. While adventure has taken me sky-high—over 6,000 skydives, a pilot’s license, and a career in photography—fly fishing is what keeps me grounded. Whether I’m tying flies, scouting new water, or helping someone gear up for their own trip, I put that same passion and attention to detail into everything we do at the shop.

I'm the wrangler, organizer and person behind the scenes who keeps everyone in line and makes sure we're running smoothly. The outdoors have always been a passion and the mountains are always calling. I love that we're able to work with so many Montana based companies and artists. But mostly, I love meeting so many amazing people who walk through the door!

If I’m not at the shop, there’s a good chance I’m on the water. Fly fishing isn’t just a hobby for me—it’s a way of life. I spend every spare moment outdoors, chasing fish and soaking up everything nature has to offer. One of my favorite parts of this job is helping others get into fly fishing and watching them fall in love with it the way I did. Whether you’re brand new or ready to upgrade your gear, I’m here to help you get dialed in and onto the fish.
